NEWS & UPCOMING EVENTS *****
The next regular meeting of the Community Club
will be held at 7:00 P.M. on Tuesday, May 13, at the Community Hall. ***** Remember: All Flaxcombe and area residents are WELCOME to come to these meetings! Any questions or suggestions around community activities? Contact # 463-4555 or 463-3555. The ANNUAL Community Club MEETING was held APRIL 1, 2008 in the hall.
There were 8 area residents present. The outgoing president gave her report on all the events that took place over the past year. A new board member was accepted and a current board member agreed to stay on until her moving date. ***** ![]() A main cemetery cleanup is needed--date to be set at the April 8th meeting and a plan for regular maintenance for the summer months needs to be put together.
There are still improvements needed on the hall. A window in the basement needs to be boarded up. An estimate of $2000 was received for restoration of the bell tower and $8000 to side the rest of the hall. A suggestion was made that the bell be dismantled and placed by the new sign. More community input will be needed before this decision can be made. The old windows from the basement of the hall will be auctioned at an upcoming local auction. The front and side doors need to be reset and tightened with new weather stripping. Snow and cold air are coming in!! ***** ![]()
Attendance at our annual meetings always seems to be low and the idea of phoning people around the community, instead of relying on posters seems to be a good idea. ***** ![]()
The regular meeting
held April 8th saw a new executive formed with a new president and the secretary and treasurer remaining in place for another year. ***** There was a small profit made on the dance and reports of positive feedback. New food laws are coming into effect by July or August that require licensed caterers to look after food at such events. A motion to renew our membership to the Wild Goose Recreation Association was carried. A motion was carried to donate $100 to Alsask's Relay For Life to be held June 20th. *****
The cemetery cleanup date was set for June 22 at 1:00 P.M. We need more community input on whether to repair or dismantle the bell tower. If dismantled, the bell would be placed by the new hall sign. ***** There is still the issue of siding the remainder of the hall. It would be possible to scrape and paint the rest of the hall.
PLEASE REMEMBER:This community needs and welcomes everyone to take an active part in all activities and that includes you!! What does the Community Club do? 2008 is already off to a great start with community rallying to help with The Ladies Nite Out had a sellout crowd. This year's St. Patrick's Day Dance was a success once again. ***** |
